Key ideas

  • Model maximalism. Don’t build scaffolding around current model limitations; build at the edge of capability; models will catch up in 2–3 months.
  • Worst model you’ll ever use. Today’s models are the worst you’ll ever experience; AI is improving at ~10x/year.
  • Evals are the core product skill. Model reliability on a specific use case (60% vs 95% vs 99.5%) determines the entire product design. AI quality is capped by eval quality.
  • Fine-tuning everywhere. Most products will eventually use fine-tuned models; every team will need ML researchers.
  • Chat as universal interface. Unstructured communication scales to all intelligence levels and all use cases; the right baseline for open-ended AI interaction.
