Guillermo Rauch

Guillermo Rauch is founder and CEO of Vercel, the web infrastructure platform, and creator of Next.js (the most widely used React framework), Socket.IO, and v0 (AI-powered web product builder). An engineer since childhood, he has spent 25+ years making increasingly powerful web tools accessible to the widest possible audience.

Key ideas

  • Everybody can cook. The target market for product building is not 5M developers but 100M people who have product ideas. v0’s mission is to close that gap.
  • Translation tasks going away. Styling, layout, and design-to-implementation conversion are translation tasks — the kind of tasks transformer architecture was built for — and are being automated.
  • Eloquence as the durable skill. Knowing the right tokens to steer AI models toward intent (e.g., “turbulence effect”, “neobrutalist”, “sepia filter”) matters more than deep specialised knowledge.
  • Exposure hours. Vercel’s internal principle for building taste: quantify how much time you spend watching real users interact with products. Taste is a learnable skill, not an innate gift.
  • Code last, not code first. Product building should start with experience (what the user sees and feels) and use code as an escape hatch for precision, not as the starting point.
